If you want to save money i would suggest to take a bus to Xingping and make a boat trip there. Between Xingping and Yangshuo it's most impressive. I'm planning a trip to that region in late August. From what I read, it seems that Yangshuo has all the breathtaking scenery and one can simply skip the Lijiang river cruise to save time and money.
